Santa Cruz threatens to rescue the concession of public car parks that do not lower prices

The Santa Cruz City Council is determined that the concessionaires of the city’s public car parks comply with the specifications that allowed them to access the management of these spaces, which, in some cases, are charging 60% more than they should.

At least that is how the Councilor for Public Services, Carlos Tarife, defended it yesterday, who pointed out that “they will have to comply with what we have ordered, regarding the drop in prices and the payment of the canon, if not, we will proceed to sanction first and to redeem the concession later, if necessary”. The mayor made this statement during the Control Commission held yesterday and in which he appeared at the request of United We Can to report on the Serrador Bridge parking lot.

Tarife admitted that “what is reasonable” with public parking concessions, and of all concessions in general, is to “monitor to verify that they are complied with”, adding that “we are not going to allow the consumers of these parking lots to continue to be taken for a ride.” parking lots”.

The Public Services area has already addressed the seven existing public car parks in the city so that they proceed to regulate their situation with regard to the prices charged, as well as to update the canon, since many of them paid a lower figure to what is established in the specifications.

In the case of the Serrador Bridge, Tarife explained that he has been ordered to lower the price to 1.18 euros per hour, which represents a drop of 60%, as well as to regularize the late canon that he estimated at almost 50,000 euros.

The UP spokesman, Ramón Trujillo, had an impact on the extra money that users have paid so far, estimating in the case of the Serrador bridge parking lot that the concessionaire has pocketed some 140,000 euros more. He was also interested in knowing if the compulsory insurance premiums have been paid, which in a first report of 2017 already indicated that they were not up to date.

Tarife in his presentation explained that, as the concessions expire, it will be decided what to do with them, so that, he pointed out, if the City Council recovers the management, it could be the public company of Municipal Housing, as Muvisa already does. in La Laguna, the one in charge of that management. “The Plaza de España car park is the first for which the concession expires, and we will see whether or not it is likely to be taken out again for concession, taking into account, for example, the conditions that it now presents, such as the fact that there is no elevator to go outside.

From Cs, its spokesperson, Matilde Zambudio, pointed out that “it is a bargain to contract with the Santa Cruz City Council because nobody cares that the specifications are met”, criticizing that since 2004, when the first irregularities were detected until today, no nothing has been done about it.

The spokesman for the PSOE, José Ángel Martín, slipped that it would be necessary to investigate other types of conduct by dealers, wondering, for example, why there are car parks that do not allow payment by card.
