The political groups of Municipality of La Laguna They agreed, in yesterday’s plenary session, to address in a next extraordinary session, this month, the problem that several families of what are known as 119 homes in San Matías are experiencing with the debt claim by Visocan, owner of the development, and reach an institutional agreement to help them and avoid evictions. A debate that arose from a motion presented yesterday by the Councilor for Citizens Juan Antonio Molina.

It should be remembered that in 2018 an agreement entered into force between the City hall and Visocan by which the Consistory is helping vulnerable families with the payment of the rent of these public houses with a private rental regime, paying the residents only between 50-60 euros. However, “suddenly, a few weeks ago, Visocan began to call families to ask for a payment of debts, that they be signed and assumed by the families and that they be paid before August 31,” he explained, later. , the Councilor for Social Welfare, Rubens Ascanio, which has generated “fear and concern” among the residents. Ascanio explained that approximately 23 homes would be affected, including cases of families that have not been able to assume the payment commitment of the agreement or with debts prior to its entry into force, and there are also some squatting.

From Social Welfare, two letters have been sent to Visocan, and a meeting has been held with its manager, to ask him “to rethink the documentation that he is asking families, to make an adequate payment plan adapted to their socioeconomic situation. , that other alternatives be considered”, with the collaboration of the City Council, “and that evictions do not take place”. “I believe that Visocan will attend to these trades and, if not, we will act and stand by the neighbors” because “we are not going to allow them to play with the risk of eviction or with threats to families for not being able to cope to debts”, he emphasized.

Corpus Contest

This was one of the topics addressed in a quick plenary session, during which multiple institutional agreements were reached in the motions presented, such as, for example, urging the future mixed commission of Fiestas to create a carpet contest in the Corpus Christi lagunero, including among the various categories one specifically aimed at recognizing the efforts of groups with functional diversity.

In addition, it was approved to dedicate a sculpture to the traditional Valle Tabares and Valle Jiménez boat races and request authorization from the Cabildo to place it at the roundabout of the TF-111 island road; as well as another sculpture in Valle de Guerra in recognition of the Rosario Wrestling Club and its fighters and enhancement of this sport. A series of improvements were also agreed in the Porlier de Bajamar urbanization and its surroundings, as well as improving accessibility and mobility on the Las Mercedes road or a motion in defense of the Canarian potato.

Likewise, a series of files related to the granting of honorary rewards to, for example, Don José Secundino Gómez Soliño, to the Scouts and their values or to the body of the Local Police, among others, were approved.

In addition, a budget modification of close to four million went ahead to pay 1,394,784 euros to the company awarded the works in the Las Chumberas urbanization, for updating prices since the works were awarded in 2018 and could start them in 2020 ; as well as 750,000 euros for the organization of the Noche en Blanco 2022 and the Christmas-Reyes campaign, or 600,000 euros for the acquisition of electric buses, among other items.
