SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, July 14. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, defended this Thursday the “presumption of innocence” in the “mask case” as a result of the complaint filed by the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office against the director of the Canary Islands Health Service, Conrado Domínguez, and the company RR7 United.
In statements to journalists, he insisted that the “priority” of the Executive continues to be to recover the money – four million euros were paid for just over a million masks that were never received – given that the autonomous community is “part affected”.
The president has shown the Government’s full willingness to collaborate with justice and has remarked, in line with the position held by Domínguez himself, that the objective has always been to defend the “general interest” at a time that is very complicated by the health pandemic .
He has said that to recover the money the Executive has carried out the appropriate procedures with the Tax Agency and now, before the presentation of the complaint, he has asked for “respect” before all the steps that justice must take because the case is still in a “very preliminary phase”.
On the possibility of appearing in Parliament or that an investigation commission be opened, as some opposition parties are probing, he recalled that he has responded twice in the control session and that the Minister of Health, Blas Trujillo, has also appeared twice, once in committee –at his own request– and once before the Plenary.
