Even so, and in anticipation of episodes that may occur associated with the risk of forest fires, the insular institution has addressed the 31 municipalities of the island with the intention that they transfer their inhabitants residing in rural and forest areas, in As far as possible, maintenance work in the landscaped areas and land that surrounds them, to avoid possible fires.
The Minister of Management of the Natural Environment and Security, Isabel García, recalled in a note that “there is a legal obligation to keep the land free of waste of all kinds, whether spontaneous scrub or dry vegetation, even in a strip of 15 meters around the houses.
In his opinion, “it is not a matter of felling or cutting all the existing trees in the area, but of avoiding the accumulation of dry vegetation and other combustible residues that favor the possible spread of the fire.”
That is why, from the area, the town councils are requested to extend this information by the means considered most appropriate in order to achieve a more robust self-protection system among all citizens, taking into account that in the field of Forest fire prevention is a fundamental issue.
