The Ministry of Economy, Knowledge and Employment of the Government of the Canary Islands, in collaboration with the chambers of commerce of the Archipelago, has reinforced current relations with Ghana through the reverse mission this week in the Islands of eleven companies from the African country from the sectors of construction, agri-food, distribution and services.
Organized by the General Directorate of Economic Affairs with Africa and the support of the public company Sociedad Canaria de Fomento Económica (Proexca), the Ministry has promoted around 80 business meetings between the Ghanaian delegation and some thirty Canarian companies from 12 to July 15, both in person and online, within the framework of the internationalization process of the productive fabric of the Archipelago.
The first axis of the Canary Islands-Africa Strategy 2022-2023, corresponding to economic diplomacy and territorial cooperation, places Ghana among the new priority countries, beyond traditional areas such as Morocco or Senegal, due to its greater potential for economic expansion of the island companies, since it appears in the statistics prepared by the World Bank as the second state in population and wealth of the western coast of the neighboring continent, behind Nigeria.
“Since 2019, Ghana has been committed to through various actions such as a virtual mission of Canarian companies or specialized training in entrepreneurship and health for professionals and young people from the African country, in addition to the proposal transferred to the European Union for its next participation as a guest state in the Interreg Madeira-Azores-Canarias (MAC) 2021-2027 cooperation program”, highlighted the General Director of Economic Affairs with Africa, Nasara Cabrera Abu, before also recalling the institutional visit at the end of May by the Minister of the Western Region, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, together with the ambassador to Spain, Mohammad Adam.
In addition to the four chamber corporations of the Islands and the homologous institution of the African country, Casa Africa, the Canary Islands Special Zone (ZEC), the Canary Islands Technological Institute (ITC) also participate in the reverse mission of Ghana in the Archipelago, among other entities. , Social Housing of the Canary Islands (Visocan), Free Trade Zone of Gran Canaria, Port Authority of Las Palmas, Association of Builders and Promoters of Las Palmas (AECP), Federation of Small and Medium Metal and New Technologies Enterprises of Las Palmas ( Femepa), College of Architects of Gran Canaria or Binter.
