The state public company Aguas de las Cuencas de España (Waters) began this Wednesday, July 13, the works to improve the wastewater sanitation system of the Orotava Valleywho have a budget of €9.7 million and will make it possible to extend a network of more than 11 kilometers of pipes or collectors that will channel the sewage to the Punta Brava regional treatment plantin Cross port.

The City Council of The Realejos informs that the works begin with the execution of the sanitation collector of Los Cuartos street, where it will be necessary to modify the traffic.

This work has been promoted by the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Retrospective of the Government of Spainvia an agreement with the Cabildo and the Tenerife Island Water Council. It is co-financed with european feder funds within the Pluriregional Operational Program of Spain.

Two new pumping stations

Acuaes announces that two new wastewater pumping stations (EBAR) will be built in Cuesta de la Villa and San Vicente, and four others will be remodeled in Martiánez, El Faro, Playa Jardín and Santelmo. In addition, 11 kilometers of collectors will be built in San Jerónimo, Los Martillos, Vista Paraíso, Cuesta de la Villa, Los Cuartos, La Montaña, Martiánez and Los Gómez-La Florida.

This investment will be executed on the roads of the municipalities of Los Realejos, La Orotava, Puerto de la Cruz and Santa Ursulawith the aim that all the Orotava Valleywhere more than 124,000 people live, is configured as “a single urban agglomeration with the same treatment system and discharge point to the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) of Cross port“. To achieve this, the necessary collectors and pumping stations will be installed to boost the wastewater.

Conditions in Los Realejos

The Local Police, the company that executes the works and the Municipal Planning Department of The Realejos met recently to analyze the impact of the different phases planned in the municipality. The first intervention will take place between the National Reference Center for Gardening and the intersection of Los Cuartos street with Los Almácigos street.

This state and European intervention will improve the management of wastewater in four municipalities where more than 124,000 people reside

decoration

Access for users of this garden center and residents of the upper section of Calle Los Cuartos will be allowed, descending, from the TF-333 or the general highway of San Benito-La Zamora. To reach the tracks of the La Carrera Urbanization, the Basilio Labrador Sports Complex and Los Almácigos Street, at the back of Las Panaderas Square, the section of track from Los Barros will remain open.

the end goal

Acuaes details that the purpose of this investment is to collect the wastewater generated by the urban agglomerations that make up the Territorial System of Infrastructures of the Orotava Valley (in which they include nuclei such as Cuesta de la Villa, La Florida and Icod Alto) to route them to the Regional WWTP of the Valley of La Orotava, located in Puerto de la Cruz, and whose expansion is planned. At the treatment plant, “the channeled water will receive the treatment required by current European regulations on water protection 91/271/CEE and 2006/7/CEE, before being discharged through the submarine outfall of Punta Brava”.

The expansion of the sewage treatment plant

The construction project for the expansion of the wastewater treatment plant in the Valle de La Orotava Hydraulic Complex must guarantee the secondary treatment of 10,000 cubic meters every day, the equivalent of about four Olympic swimming pools, through membrane bioreactors. In addition, the current WWTP, located in Punta Brava. The Cabildo recognizes that “given the scarcity of space available inside the Hydraulic Complex of the Valley of La Orotava, motivated by the existence of the current treatment plant, the implementation of the new facilities will have to be projected in the free space at present, so that they do not interfere with the current process. It will also be necessary to guarantee the compatibility of the design carried out with future expansions of the plant. It will be necessary to study the need to carry out emptying and maintenance tasks within the complex.

The Council of Tenerife, through the CIATF, awarded in April, for 108,000 euros, the drafting of this project to expand the regional treatment plant. The deadline for completion of this technical document ends in October 2022.
