SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, July 12. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, highlighted on Tuesday that the Canary Islands had been “the first autonomous community” to sign agreements with the State to rehabilitate and build more than 3,000 homes on the islands.
In response to a question from NC in the control session of Parliament, he indicated that these agreements are in line with “complying” with the ‘Housing Pact’ of the islands and with the “essential” commitment to bet on energy efficiency despite the initial “rebellion”.
The president has detailed a first program to build 921 social rental homes, with 44.7 million Next Generation funds, and another for the rehabilitation of 2,332 homes in the four large cities of the archipelago, with a deadline until 2026.
According to Torres, these agreements are an example of a “clear and effective policy” to promote the construction of public housing.
Carmen Hernández (NC) commented that it is to be congratulated that the Canary Islands are the first community to have projects ready to receive European funds and with “the novelty imposed by Europe” of using energy efficiency criteria.
“It is no coincidence that we are the first, we have to get our chests out. I congratulate the municipalities for doing things correctly”, he indicated.
