The council cooperates with Santa Cruz and La Laguna in the rehabilitation of 819 homes. For this, it has signed a collaboration agreement with the Governments of Spain and the Canary Islands, as well as with both municipalities. These will receive more than 20 million euros from the State and two as an insular contribution to reform 381 homes in the capital de Añaza neighborhood and 438 in the El Cardonal de Aguere urbanization. The global investment exceeds 34 million euros.
The island president Peter Martinexplains that these actions will prioritize the people in a situation of social vulnerability and economic. In addition, they will guarantee that “the houses meet minimum conditions of habitability, safety and accessibility, but also of sustainability and energy efficiency.”
Martín emphasizes that, “we continue to strengthen our collaboration with the municipalities and respond to the families that need it most, since they have been waiting for too long for reforms to improve their quality of life and ensure decent housing».
The island councilor for Municipal Cooperation and Housing, Zebenzuí Chinea, explains that this agreement is part of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR), financed by the European Unionthrough the Next Generation funds.
In Añaza an investment of 13,219,338 euros is contemplated and the rehabilitation of 381 homes, in which it is expected to achieve a reduction in energy consumption of more than 60%. The Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda will contribute 10,287,162 euros, the Island Corporation one million and the Santa Cruz City Council 1,408,301, in three annual installments (2023-2025).
In The Cardinal the investment will exceed 21 million euros and 438 homes will be rehabilitated. The Ministry will contribute 10,973,299, the Cabildo one million and the City Council of La Laguna 9,032,508, in four annual installments (2023-2026).
Before the end of the summer, the Cabildo will begin to execute the Insular Housing Rehabilitation Program 2022endowed with more than one million euros.
