SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, July 8. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The Cabildo de Tenerife will train the volunteer staff of the different groups and associations on the Island in a program that includes more than nine courses and that will involve more than 600 volunteers.

This program directed by the Security area of the Island Institution is part of the Cabildo agreement with the Spanish Red Cross, which also participates with the contribution of 25% of the total program budget.

The Councilor for Security of the Cabildo, Isabel García, has indicated that the associations and groups for the Protection of the Island and the volunteers who participate in it are a “fundamental and essential” tool in security management. However, they have perceived that the attention to these teams over time has been diluted and losing value.

For this reason, the Cabildo wants to strengthen this structure, providing, as far as possible, technical means, training, as well as coordination so that they can carry out their work in the best possible conditions, added the counselor.

Isabel García pointed out that this is the first time that an insular plan is given in which it is intended that the training received by the different groups be homogeneous, in order to provide a unified response to emergencies that may occur.

The president of the Red Cross in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, María Teresa Pociello, stressed that the collaboration with the Cabildo and the Red Cross in the programming of this plan “will result in visible and tangible results and in the provision of training demanded and necessary for volunteers”. Ella pociello also stressed the availability of the Red Cross throughout the programming.

This program is aimed at 18 local groups and six Civil Protection associations on the Island. The delivery format is established in three modalities: face-to-face, semi-face-to-face and online. Four offices have been established for this, in Tacoronte, Santa Cruz, La Orotava and Candelaria.

In terms of content, courses on first aid, civil protection plans, traffic and road safety, basic social skills, communications, theory of fire and use of fire extinguishers, volunteer management, chainsaws and basic life support and defibrillators will be taught. .
