The Council of Tenerife has activated the maximum level of forest fire warning due to the situation of maximum alert dictated by the Directorate of Security and Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands and the activation by which the Special Plan for Civil Protection and Emergency Attention for Forest Fires of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands (Infoca) is approved, with special attention to the midlands, highlands and peaks.

The Minister of Management of the Natural Environment and Security, Isabel García, has indicated that there will be a “heat episode in the coming days in which temperatures of between 32 and 38 degrees are expected and probable local values that will reach or exceed 40 degrees. Very dry and warm air, especially in the midlands, high areas and summits, and there will also be haze and very little relative humidity in the environment.
For all these reasons, it requested “strict compliance with security measures, among which the use of forest spaces is limited, both trails, tracks and recreation areas, as well as the use of machinery or tools that can produce sparks, the execution of forest exploitation and recreational and camping areas”.
Isabel García also called for “prudence and common sense in the face of the situation of extreme heat that we will experience in the coming days, which can cause serious problems in our mountains” and reminded the population “of the need to be aware with the uses so that there are no near misses or alarms at a time of extreme meteorological delicacy”.
Therefore, and while this maximum alert lasts, access to the mountain, including trails and tracks, activities with fireworks, recreational and camping areas will remain closed and authorized sports activities, including hunting, will remain closed. will be suspended until the end of the notices.
