The Popular Party in the Cabildo de Tenerife has claimed the urgency of installing a clean point in the Polígono Industrial Las Andoriñas, in Las Chafiras, in the municipality of San Miguel de Abona. The island councilor of the PP Valentín González Évora indicates that they will insist in the next plenary session on “the need to prioritize this infrastructure with the aim of improving the selective waste collection system.”
González Évora recently visited, together with the spokesperson for the Popular Party in the San Miguel City Council, María José Tacoronte, a municipal site, which is located in this industrial estate, and whose use corresponds to that of a clean point, as established by the Special Territorial Plan for Waste Management (Pteor). However, this space is currently used “as a garbage dump, without anyone remedying this situation.”
The Popular Party’s proposal in the Cabildo is based on the need to “improve the tools available to the population for the selective waste collection system, since this will result in an improvement in the state of health, the economic sustainability of the service and the environmental impact on the Island in general».
Both González Évora and Tacoronte demand measures that “prevent our Island from starring in headlines in which we are pointed out as the leaders in the burial of garbage, with minimum levels of recycling”, and they assure that “as far as citizens are concerned , the administration must guarantee the adequate tools to facilitate the task of separating at source».
The PP adviser also recalls that “there is a plenary agreement of September 2021, by which all the political groups agreed to promote a network of clean points on the Island that would favor separation at origin.” However, he concludes that “the island government continues to ignore the need to comply with the agreements reached in plenary sessions, installing a democratic anomaly in the Cabildo.”
