The Canarian runners demonstrated their enormous power in the popular races of Reventón El Paso Fred.Olsen Express. Only the first place in the women’s Sprint, obtained by Rebecca Rossberg, was missing to achieve a historic plenary session. The triumphs of Albi Cedrés, Diego Martín, Elsa Padrón and Yoel de Paz stood out, in addition to the aforementioned German runner, although based in Tenerife, in a spectacular day of racing, since the La Palma municipality of El Paso also hosted the Trail Race modality of the European Championship of trail running and mountain running.
The queen distance was the Marathon, which shared a route with the most outstanding modality of the EAORCH. The athletes faced a spectacular and demanding circular route of 46 kilometers and 2,557 meters of positive elevation gain that runs through places such as La Cumbrecita, El Reventón, the El Pilar refuge, Las Pernadas or the Ermita del Pino. A track without concessions that has demanded the maximum from all the applicants present on the starting line. Conejero Albi Cedrés achieved a comfortable victory, reaching the finish line with a time of 04:24:39. The next two positions were defined thanks to the experience of two riders from Tenerife. Glendor Rodríguez (04:51:46) and José Manuel León (05:10:00), entered the finish line in second and third position, respectively.
The men’s Classic was more closely contested when it came to defining the podium, while the first place was clearly dominated by the local athlete Diego Martín, who completed the 31.6 km route, with 1,391 meters of positive elevation gain, in a time of 02:28:54. Luis Ángel Suárez (02:34:43) and Yaco García Martín (02:39:24) occupied the second and third place on the podium.
For her part, Elsa Padrón controlled at all times the most veteran modality of all the popular Reventón El Paso. The Gran Canarian flew through the trails to reach a time of 03:17:53, taking more than 26 minutes ahead of her closest rival, who was Chani Caballero (03:44:30). Marina Hernández Galván (03:48:28) was the third in contention on the podium of the Classic.
And finally the Sprint modality, the shortest and most explosive of the El Paso Marathon. The male modality was dominated by local runners. Yoel de Paz (01:16:28) was the fastest, showing that he is back with a bang after a period of sick leave for medical reasons. In second place came Aday Hernández from El Hierro (01:20:08). Third was another clapper, Alejandro Díaz (01:21:06) who snatched the bronze medal from Aarón Felipe, winner last Thursday of the first competitive event in Reventón, the Ascent to the Stars.
In the women’s category, it was the only one that was not one hundred percent dominated by the local product. Rebecca Rossberg (01:32:43), a German runner although she lives in Tenerife, beat María Platero with a difference of more than nine minutes. The time of the second was 01:42:07, while Vero Suárez Blanco was third with a final time of 01:46:57.
