The plenary session of the City Council The Guanchain an extraordinary session held this Friday, July 1, approved at the beginning of the seventh month of the year a budget of 6.4 million with which the remainder of 2022 will be faced. These 6,413,557 euros, which represent an increase of 8.13% compared to 2021went ahead thanks to the votes of the Government Group of the Popular Party and the abstentions of Canarian Coalition and the PSOE.

The guanchero mayor, Antonio Hernandez (PP)highlighted that the Consistory will have 482,000 euros more than in 2021 «thanks to the increase in current transfers from the State and the Autonomous Community». Among the chapters that grew the most, personnel spending stands out, which increased by 12%, which means spending around 300,000 euros this year. An increase that is produced, mainly, “by the creation of a new square of sports technician to comply with a court ruling, as well as for the recognition of new three-year periods, the entry into force of the new list of jobs and the extraordinary plan for the stabilization of all the personnel of the local Administration”, according to the mayor.

Regarding chapter two, dedicated to the financing of municipal public goods and services, «also increases slightly more than 18%». And he does it, according to the mayor, “because of the rise in the costs of electricity, water and fuel… in short, due to the rise in the cost of living».

Expenditures on personnel, goods and services consume practically 90% of resources

The investment required to pay the council staff, as well as goods and services, leaves little room for manoeuvre. Hernández emphasizes that the expenses in this exercise in these concepts, adding chapters 1 and 2, are close to 90% of the municipal budget».

Regarding the aid granted the guanchero town hallthe mayor underlines “the firm commitment that this administration has with the different groups: we continue to make a significant effort to comply with all of them and on this occasion we have been able to increase the aid to the three senior clubs by a small amount and also the departure of scholarships, which goes from 60,000 to 70,000 euros».

Antonio Hernandez considers that “despite the budgetary limitations that we find ourselves with, we are going to work to strengthen and improve the administrative structure of the City Council itself, as well as administrative management, with the tendering of services with special emphasis on improving the Social Services and help for dependent people».

The accounts grow 8% compared to 2021, which allows the municipality to have an additional 482,000 euros

The mayor also highlighted “the increase in the area of social services, which has increased from 636,219 euros to 871,901 euros, 37% more social spendingwhich makes that of 2022 the most social budget in the entire history of La Guancha ».

Conjuncturally, the municipality has been able to promote investment with the use of the remaining treasury, but most of its income comes from transfers from other administrations and from direct taxes, rates and public prices. As in previous years, The Guancha shows a strong dependence on external financing. Hernández announces “an effort to rationalize public spending, with more efficient and fair policies; fight against tax fraud, and an improvement in collection».
