Declared a large fire in an industrial estate in Santa Cruz de Tenerife that already affects several ships

The entire staff of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Fire Station and reinforcements from San Miguel and La Orotava, in addition to the volunteer firefighters, have been acting since the early hours of this Friday in a level 3 fire declared in the El Chorrillo industrial estate, in the island capital. The Emergency and Security Coordination Center of the Government of the Canary Islands (CECOES 1-1-2) received the first alert call about this event at 01:40.

As reported by the Santa Cruz Local Police, the fire has affected three warehouses between Laderitas del Pilar, Orquídea and Girasol streets. So far, one of the buildings has been totally affected and the others, partially. Fortunately, no personal injuries have been reported.

The virulence of the fire forced the closure of all access to the area, except for the interveners and personnel of the affected companies. Also, firefighters are still working on the scene at this time, to extinguish the flames and cool the burned areas, and will continue like this throughout this morning.

The National Police, the Canarian Police and the Civil Protection of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council are also part of the operation. Cecopal, for its part, contacted the owners of the ships to gather information and possible means of support for the interveners.

Several trucks were quickly removed from inside the affected warehouses and those closest to the fire. Firefighters have done a special job to prevent the fire from spreading to a warehouse that houses significant amounts of paper and cardboard.
