After a long process and several unsuccessful attempts, 11 years after its expiration -the one still in force and irregularly extended from 2001-, Candelaria is preparing to put out to tender a new competition for solid waste collection, street cleaning and of public buildings. In 2001 Candelaria had 12,000 inhabitants, while today it is close to 30,000, so the deficit of the service provided in the municipality can be deduced.
Although the initial intention of Airam Pérez Chinea, Councilor for Concession Companies, was to launch two separate tenders, one for the collection of solid waste (garbage) and street cleaning and the other for public buildings, the entire service will eventually be unified into a single concession and will no longer have a duration of 10 years, like the one signed with Urbaser, but rather the term will be reduced to seven.
The following information is collected in the new contest, which will be taken to plenary session today for its approval. The waste collection service, road and coastal cleaning of the municipality of Candelaria includes special services, such as cleaning ravines and clearing weeds. The annual budget will be 3,111,823.33 euros (more than 10% of the municipal budget) and throughout the seven-year contract for an amount of 21,782,763.33 euros. The objective will be to improve the levels of quality and efficiency, as well as to optimize resources. The contract is adapted to the urban development of the municipality. The forecast is that the service, once it is tendered, will start operating at the end of the year or the beginning of 2023. And all this hoping that it will not be deserted, something that is not unreasonable given the increase in costs, with the CPI for above 10%.
Remainder
Today’s plenary session will bring two budget modifications today at the expense of the remainder of the Treasury. One of 301,746.39 euros and another of 1,380,537.83 euros. Specifically, these amounts will be used to rehabilitate the stone from Constitución avenue to El Pozo, the renovation of playgrounds on Guanches de la Virgen street, El Trueque square, 1º de Mayo park, Dimas Coello square, Plaza de La Libertad, Plaza El Tagorillo and La Capilla. It will also serve to address improvements in the CEIP Príncipe Felipe, Carmen Álvarez de la Rosa and Igueste schools, as well as in sports facilities such as the Bruno Alberto Sabina football field and the athletics area.
