SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, June 28. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The Cabildo de Tenerife has shown the attractions of the Island to attract remote workers during the celebration of the ‘We Are Developers World Congress’, the largest world congress in the sector, held this June in Berlin.

The presence of the Island in the German capital was carried out through Turismo de Tenerife and its Tenerife Work&Play brand, which presented the Island’s claims to more than 4,000 companies and 8,000 technology professionals and made known the actions that are being carried out out to attract remote workers.

In addition, this strategy deals with capturing companies interested in the so-called company retreats, through which industries decide to move with all their employees to a destination for several months a year.

The island’s director of Tourism, Laura Castro, highlighted that Tenerife “has stood out in recent years as a destination for digital nomads and remote workers, and regularly occupies the first places in the ranking of preferred destinations for these in the popular Nomad List”.

The island official pointed out that the Island “currently hosts approximately more than 1,500 remote workers”, and added that technological advances, together with the possibilities of Tenerife in terms of quality of life, cultural and leisure offer, “allow us to magnetize to a growing sector, such as animation and its professionals, which exceeded 15 million euros of investment last year, which is a source of job creation and economy for the Island,” Castro said.

For the CEO of Tourism of Tenerife, David Pérez, “the fact of having tax advantages, good air connectivity and technological resources, places us among the destinations adapted to the needs of this type of professionals. This congress has given us the opportunity to analyze the global situation of the sector and promote Tenerife’s possibilities to continue positioning itself in the digital economy market”, concluded Pérez.

To this end, Tenerife Work&Play presented the benefits of the Island for remote workers, from favorable taxation, a pleasant climate, extensive leisure options and great air connectivity. In addition, and specifically for professionals in the technology sector, the Island provides infrastructure such as the HPC-Teide supercomputer, as well as an extensive network of technology parks or a firm commitment to R&D&I.

Tenerife Work&Play was born as a promotional strategy adapted to those known as digital nomads and remote workers, who need specific services to settle on the island for long periods of time. This initiative is promoted by the economic promotion platform Why Tenerife?, from which the attraction of business investment is promoted.

The platform is made up of the Cabildo de Tenerife, through the delegated area of Foreign Action, the Chamber of Commerce, the Canary Islands Special Zone (ZEC), the Port Authority and the Tenerife Free Zone.
