Last night, the comparsas put the finishing touch to the closing of this Summer Carnival in Santa Cruz de Tenerife with its rhythm and color during the celebration of the Rhythm and Harmony contest, and in which Bahía Bahitiare won the highest award for the first time, climbing from the second prize obtained in the contest held on the 18th at the Fairgrounds.
Meanwhile, Los Cariocas and Tropicana won second and third prizes, respectively, last night. Second prize went to Los Rumberos and the award for best banner went to Danzarines Canarios, who celebrated their 50th anniversary this year. They all demonstrated the energy and power of their dance groups and batucadas, and the desire to return to the streets and enjoy after the pandemic.
Thus, the troupes took over Francisco la Roche avenue again, unfolding their choreographies to the rhythm of the batucada in this particular chicharrero ‘sambódromo’, in a contest that started shortly after 8:00 p.m., while it was still daytime, which, obviously, is not usual when it is held in February, and with an audience, perhaps, somewhat smaller than in other editions, but delivered applauding.
The contest began with the Tropicana children’s comparsa, followed by the float of the Carnival Queen and by the nine comparsas that participated this year, interspersed by the floats of the bridesmaids and other candidates for the adult gala. Thus, the first to leave were the Tropicana candlestick makers, followed by Valleiros, Cariocas, Río Orinoco, Rumberos, Abenaura, which premiered this year at the Carnival, Danzarines Canarios, Tabajaras and Bahía Bahitiare, which closed the contest for more than two hours. after.
And it is that perhaps the contest lasted longer than desirable, with too many spaces sometimes between troupes, and the long duration of their performances in the area where the television cameras were waiting, where the groups took their time to unfold everything his repertoire.
The rain also made an appearance towards the middle of the contest, light, but insistent at times and that accompanied until the end, which caused the organization to remove the advertising stickers from the asphalt, predictably to avoid slipping.
The ruling was made known around 11:30 p.m., awarding the first prize to Bahía Bahitiare who, despite being the last to participate, after two hours of waiting, came out wasting energy, desire and surprising with their choreography, and climbing from the runner-up achieved at the Fairgrounds.
Los Cariocas, who won the first prize on the 18th, won the second prize for Rhythm and Harmony last night and offered a great show that included drums with LED lights. The third prize of the night went to Tropicana, who had not won any at the Fairgrounds, and who demonstrated the strength of her batucada and her dance team.
Rhythm and Harmony put an end to the chicharreras festivities, in which one last day of Carnival could be enjoyed yesterday in the street, which closed with a great pyrotechnic display to say goodbye to Don Carnal until next year.
