The countdown begins for the 2023 Carnival: 235 days left

A city of hangover received the last day of the 2022 carnival, a celebration that has brought together thousands of people in its streets, both day and night, to enjoy the return of the chicharrera party par excellence, and for which, as the Councilor for Fiestas, Alfonso Cabello, indicated yesterday, “ there are only 235 days left to enjoy it again”. And it is that the 2023 carnival will be held in just seven months, with the first big street event on February 17, the announcing Cavalcade, so contests and galas will already be underway before the end of January.

As for yesterday’s day, it was lived in a much more familiar way, with much fewer people than on Saturday, in which more than 150,000 people, according to the first estimates of the City Council, gathered in that first edition of the Day Carnival A day that tied with the dances of the night, to which even more carnival people joined. Proof of this were the large queues of vehicles waiting to enter the city after midnight.

Countdown to Carnival 2023

In a first assessment of what this Carnival has been, Cabello points out that “it is confirmed that it was a wise decision to come to the month of June given the reaction of the public and how the entire Carnival has worked.” And proof that there is no time to waste is that “now we are getting into a frenetic pace, There are 235 days left for the next Carnival, and from today we are already preparing it with the illusion and the rush of leaving a Carnival in a summery and unique version with the mind set on the future and the present of the party”.

That the Santa Cruz Carnival is still in top form is demonstrated by these four days of celebration in which, despite the two-year break imposed by the pandemic, people have wanted to enjoy themselves and do it in the best possible way, as shown by the low number of incidents. On Saturday night, the attendance, although higher than on Friday, is still very low for the thousands of people who gathered on the second carnival night. In total there were 144 people who passed through the Carnival Hospital.
