The thousands of people who visit Santa Cruz these days hand in hand with the Carnival could not help but notice the large fenced space that is next to the Plaza de España, on the new land reclaimed from the city. There stands the playground largest in the Canary Islands, dedicated to feat of 2July 5th.
The works of this space began last May and are already finished from what can be seen. The different elements that make it up have already been installed, so everything indicates that it will be put into use shortly, as announced by the City Council, which set its opening for the beginning of July. An inauguration that coincides with the 225th anniversary of the Gesta on July 25.
As reported by the City Council at the time, this 2,500-square-meter piece of land will house more than twenty games, including boats, rowboats, swings, slides, climbing nets, bars, hammocks and even a telescope It will be on July 2 when the little ones can finally enjoy this space.
The elements related to La Gesta that will be represented in this new children’s area are the English ship HMS Theseus, the Fox cutter, five English boats, the Santo Domingo convent, the San Cristóbal castle, La Carnicería beach, the old pier , the Oil ravine, the Plaza de la Iglesia, the Tigre canyon or the Alameda beach.
