Organized by the Liceo de Taoro Cultural Society since 1936, today the Pilgrimage in honor of San Isidro and Santa María de la Cabeza. In this 84th edition they expect the presence of some 25,000 people, after not having been held in the two previous years. The pilgrimage will begin at 1:30 p.m. and then the party will move to Plaza Franchy Alfaro, where the pilgrimage dance will take place, enlivened by the Corinto Band orchestra.
The novelty to be taken into account by those attending the pilgrimage is that at the end of the route the place where the carts are unhooked changes, for safety reasons. After several meetings with the representatives of the Liceo de Taoro and the Association of Road Workers, the parties agree that it is necessary to opt for a larger and safer space than the El Ramal road, so that at the end of the pilgrimage they will be located in Bishop Benitez Avenue in Lugo. During the pilgrimage, the participants must comply with the instructions of the organization. The person in charge of the cart will watch over the respect for traditionsthe proper clothing of all participants and will require compliance with the rules (complete typical costumes, avoid sports shoes, watches, sunglasses and any non-traditional element).
The Liceo Taoro Society organizes the fifth Cart Contestin which 65 will participate (64 pulled by teams and one by donkey) of the 66 that are part of the pilgrimage procession -plus the cart of the Romera Mayor, accompanied by the seven candidates for this title-, in addition to as many other parties .
On the other hand, yesterday was the popular and traditional Cattle Fair in the Las Dehesas enclosure, with more than 1,200 head of cattle: a thousand goats and sheep, a hundred cattle, fifty horses and mules, black pigs and free-range pigs (hens and rabbits).
