SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, June 25. (EUROPE PRESS) –
Maritime Rescue has rescued this Saturday some 50 people who were aboard a boat bound for the Canary Archipelago, all sub-Saharan, mostly men, as well as some women and babies, as reported by the public body.
The rescue device began this morning after an informant on land contacted the Maritime Rescue Center in Tarifa and reported that a boat had left Tarfaya for the Canary Islands and gave a position.
After passing the information to the Maritime Rescue Center in the Canary Islands, it was found that the position given by the alerter was wrong and the Sasemar 103 plane was mobilized, also notifying the ships in the area to increase their vigilance.
At around 10:00 am, the CAP San Marco ship reported to the Maritime Rescue Coordination Center in Las Palmas that it had sighted a small boat east of Lanzarote, for which it was asked to escort it at a safe distance.
The Coordination Center mobilized the salvamar Al Nair, who spotted the boat around 12:15 p.m., thanking the ship for the escort, and proceeded to rescue the approximately 50 people who were on board.
With all those rescued on board, the salvamar Al Nair is currently heading to the dock at La Cebolla, in Arrecife, where it plans to disembark at around 3:40 p.m.
