The security and emergency device activated during the celebration in the streets of the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife attended the last Carnival Night 86 people, more than half due to alcohol poisoning, as reported by the City Council.
Yesterday, two of the usually most massive acts of Carnival overlapped, on the one hand, the Cavalcade with which this weekend of celebrations began and, at night, the dances on the different stages scattered throughout the geography of the ‘Quadrilateral’ carnival.
The bulk of assistance was concentrated on people who suffered from alcohol poisoning, 52 percent of the total attended. Twelve people also suffered injuries, many of them derived from falls, being treated at the medical post located in the facilities of the Hospital del Carnaval.
In total, four attacks were recorded, initially all of a minor nature; twelve affected by intoxication of narcotic substances; six cases of common illness not related to the Carnival, and seven attendances framed in the category of other causes.
In the preventive and health device there is also a resource for the care of the youngest managed by the Spanish Red Cross, which works in coordination with the Local Police unit attached to the Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office. This police group recorded and analyzed the data of fourteen minors, nine of them male. Within this age group, 64 percent were treated for alcohol poisoning.
Health resources referred nine people to health centers or hospitals, many to carry out diagnostic tests or to require more specialized care.
At the Punto Violeta installed in the Hospital del Carnaval, only four people, three men and one woman, were given advice and information, although they did not require assistance from the personnel assigned to this service. Various interviews were also conducted with the interveners to analyze the services provided.
Members of the Local Police, National Police, the Tenerife Firefighters Consortium, a Civil Protection volunteer group and the Spanish Red Cross health personnel are added.
SIX ATTENDED IN THE PARADE
During the development of the Parade of Carnival several people suffered various mishaps, in fact, of the six attended, half required assistance due to injuries and falls. The rest needed health care, one man for a common illness and two for other causes. All the resources that provided service during this event were added, at its end, to the device for the coverage of emergencies of the Carnival.
