The chief officer of Tenerife Firefighters Consortium Florencio López has indicated a series of recommendations to the population, through a video broadcast on Instagram, so that they can safely enjoy the celebration of the popular San Juan’s bonfires on the Island, which will take place tonight.

“One more year, from the Consortium we have to establish a special service for the Bonfires of San Juan”, López begins by saying, before recalling that, as is logical, the number of incidents in the last two years of the pandemic was much minor. However, “we expect them to return to pre-pandemic levels, in which we had between 40 and 60 firefighting services.”

Florencio López details that in order to deal with the risk posed by the Bonfires of San Juan, a reinforcement device has been established for the Tenerife Firefighters Consortium, which consists of a professional staff in each park, together with the reinforcement of the coordination service in Bravo Tango and park controls to manage the largest number of available resources.

The chief fire officer of Tenerife insists that “bonfires are an activity that, within the recreational sphere, entails a significant risk” and, therefore, lists a series of recommendations:

  1. Pay attention to the authorities regarding the locations and the limitations that are imposed on them.
  2. Take extreme precautionary measures regarding the distances that must be kept with respect to buildings, wiring or vehicles.
  3. That the bonfires do not have excessive dimensions and, therefore, that they do not allow their immediate control.
  4. Do not use products that may be polluting and their combustion may cause harm to people.
