The spokesman for the Popular Party (PP) in the City Council of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Councilor for Public Services and the Environment, Carlos Tarife, assured yesterday, after learning of the new draft of the Master Plan for the Use and Management of the Anaga Rural Park prepared by the Cabildo de Tenerife, that “we are not going to allow the Cabildo to do in Anaga the same thing that the Government of the Canary Islands wants to do in Teide”.

Tarife thus announced that the Santacrucero PP will present allegations to the document that is on public display, understanding that “the Cabildo has adopted the same position as the Government of the Canary Islands on this issue, focusing on the prohibition against the incapacity of management”, something that, according to the PP spokesman in Santa Cruz, “has become the brand of the Socialist Party in the Canary Islands.”

Tarife also advanced that next week there will be a specific meeting at the City Hall to address the modifications of the PRUG of Anaga, to present allegations also from the Environment area.

The new PRUG draft of Anaga includes the prohibition of riding a bicycle along all the paths of Anaga, despite, as Tarife indicates, that “it is a vehicle that does not leave a carbon footprint”, to which it adds that “ this document includes other prohibitions such as sports competitions, the practice of climbing in emblematic places for this sport, or the transit on foot through some places”.

In short, Tarife highlights that “the Cabildo intends to close Anaga, as they have already done with Masca and Teno, and in the same way that the Government of the Canary Islands intends to close El Teide”, and rejects this situation, “from the perspective that It is about places that are intimately linked to our history, our culture and our idiosyncrasies”, which is why from the Popular Party “we are committed to regulation, which guarantees the adequate conservation of our natural spaces, but never for prohibition, apparently without technical criteria, because this is a serious attack on our freedom”.

The BOC published yesterday the minor modification of the PRUG of Anaga with the aim of updating it. Among the changes introduced is the aforementioned prohibition of cycling on the trails, which can only be done on the tracks and roads of the Anaga Rural Park. It is also prohibited to walk through the Park outside the trails.
