The Provincial Board of Santa Cruz de Tenerife of the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) organizes the fifth edition of ‘Tenerife marching against cancer’, a solidarity walk that will run through the streets of La Laguna on Saturday, July 2, from 10:00 a.m.
This initiative has the support of the Laguna Town Council and collaborators and sponsors such as CaixaBank, Mutua Tinerfeña, Mr. Wonderful and Hospiten.
The presentation of the event took place this Tuesday at the Store CaixaBank La Laguna-Concepción office, with the participation of the president of the Spanish Association Against Cancer in the province of Tenerife, Andrés Orozco; the president of the Autonomous Sports Organization of La Laguna, Idaira Afonso; the director of CaixaBank’s Northeast Tenerife business area, Lisbeth Gutiérrez; the president of Mutua Tinerfeña, José Antonio López de Vergara and the general director of Spain of the Hospiten Group, Rafael Navarro.
During the act, Orozco thanked the City Council and the sponsors for their involvement in this initiative, encouraging the public to go to La Laguna as a family on July 2 “to make visible the fight against this disease that every year in the Canary Islands 12,000 new cases are diagnosed, so you have to pay close attention to it”.
In this sense, he has emphasized that this disease “is combated on the one hand with research”, but also with the contribution of citizens, who can also “change the drift of this disease” by changing lifestyles.
The president of the Autonomous Sports Organization of La Laguna has conveyed her gratitude for the city being able to host such an important event to fight against a disease that “can affect everyone” and with which people live “daily”, and has highlighted “the importance of prevention, research and, above all, collaboration and support for people and families who suffer from it”.
In this sense, he has highlighted the commitment of the City Council in recent years to promote widespread sports practice.
For her part, the director of CaixaBank’s Northeast Tenerife area has underlined the financial institution’s commitment to this ‘solidarity walk’ in its five editions “to give visibility to the work carried out by the Spanish Association Against Cancer and to continue contributing with its programs through this great tide of solidarity that we hope to achieve on the day of the event”.
A DAY FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY
‘Tenerife on the march against cancer’ will be a day with activities to spend a morning of awareness and family entertainment, uniting in the commitment against cancer walking through the main pedestrian streets of the City of the Adelantados, on a tour of around 5 kilometers.
The registration fee is 5 euros and can be done at the headquarters of the Spanish Association Against Cancer in Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Calle San Francisco, 5) and at the Base Deportes Natalia de La Laguna stores (Herradores, 59) , Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Castillo, 38), Siam Mall Shopping Center in Adeje and El Trompo Shopping Center in La Orotava. With it, a shirt and a number will be delivered.
The goal is also to raise funds to continue providing services to patients and families.
The association currently supports more than 1,000 researchers in 525 open projects that investigate cancer for a total of 92 million euros, remaining the entity that gives the greatest impetus to cancer research.
