The Municipality of Puerto de la Cruz vindicates the ancient traditions of the festivities of San Juan and recovers its main acts: the bonfires and live music return the night of Thursday 23 to Playa Jardín and the goats bathe again at the city pier from 8:00 in the morning on Friday 24, a day in which tribute will also be paid to the 2022 Canary Islands Prize for Popular Culture Manuel J. Lorenzo Perera.
The Archaeological Museum of Porto hosts this Tuesday 21st the 2nd Bathing of Goats in the Sea Conference. Nicolas Gonzalez Lemus and Ricardo Marcos Fajardo They will put into context this outstanding tradition that has survived over time and is one of the great attractions of these festivities. The festive program was presented yesterday by the mayor, Mark Gonzalez; the president of the Cultural Association of Friends of the Bath of the Goats in the Sea, Amilcar Farinaand the singer of Caracoles, Nuria Hernandez.
The spur of jets will be another of the outstanding activities, an old custom forgotten for half a century. It consists of the enramame of public streams by the neighbors, using flowers, fruits, palms and vegetables. «In recent years, it has been possible to recover and maintain seven of the city’s public water jets, which are planted on that date by residents, artisans and volunteers, under the coordination of the Culture area of Puerto de la Cruz», explained the mayor.
The traditional bonfires will light Cross port at nightfall on the 23rd. Garden Beach Performances by the groups Caracoles (8:30 p.m.) and Tigaray (10:00 p.m.) will take place, followed by the later pyromusical show. “It is a stage to offer a special show due to the singularity of such an important day,” stressed the vocalist of Caracoles, Nuria Hernández. On the esplanade of the Customs House will have installed another stage where the public will be able to enjoy the direct Aristides Moreno and of the 101 Brass Bandstarting at 9:00 p.m.
