SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, June 20. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The Cabildo de Tenerife, through the Natural Environment and Security Area, has prohibited the making of bonfires on the occasion of the festival of San Juan and San Pedro, on June 23 and 28 in the entire forest fire risk area of the island of Tenerife and that includes the midlands of the island and the rural parks of Teno and Anaga.
The Cabildo de Tenerife, having declared from June 13 to October 16 of this year, the alert period for forest fires on the island, has proceeded to prohibit the bonfires of San Juan and San Pedro in the so-called risk zone.
In areas outside the forest fire risk zone, where the authority for authorization lies with the town councils, bonfires may be authorized if they comply with the rest of the applicable regulations, an authorization that will depend on local corporations.
Tenerife Firefighters, like every year, will activate a special attention device in the island’s parks, since this traditional celebration, in which fire is the protagonist, can cause exceptional situations, reports the Cabildo in a note.
On a recurring basis, the Cabildo points out, there is usually a notable increase in service due to bonfires that get out of control, are not well finished, generate partying, burning of polluting elements or incidents associated with increased activity.
