The Municipality of La Orotava informs this Friday that from 2:00 p.m. the accesses to El Bollullo beach will open after the emergency works carried out on the hillside since last February due to landslides.

“The beach of The Bollullo it opens for the summer because there were no incidents during the process, although it is a complicated area to carry out the work, most of it vertically, ”says the mayor, Francisco Linares, in a note, who advances that the security work has had a cost of 186,000 euros.

In mid-January, the mayor signed the decree that approved the emergency declaration of the work.

According to the reports of the Municipal Technical Office, Linares then gave the green light to start the contracting file for the sanitation and protection works of a part of the cliff where on December 30, 2021 large rocks fell on the cliff again. access trail.

Declaration of emergency for El Bollullo beach

This declaration of emergency made it possible to speed up the deadlines and is fully justified because the beach remained closed and it involved totally necessary actions to guarantee the safety of people.

Already in the January plenary session, the contracting proposal for the work was raised, which was awarded to the company Solutioma, specialized in this type of intervention.

Prior to starting the work, it was necessary to formalize a lease for nearby land to stockpile materials and machinery, and with this second intervention it has almost been possible to clean up and protect between 60 and 80% of the cliff.

However, in order to achieve a comprehensive solution, it is necessary for the El Rincón Consortium to carry out the necessary expropriations to execute a global project that includes the entire path from Los Patos beach to El Bollullo.

The City Council specifies that “never” there will be full guarantees that no new landslides will occur since the land is a cliff, but work has been carried out and all the necessary protection and safety elements have been placed to reduce this danger as much as possible.
