Agreement to conserve the trees next to a road in the Valle de La Orotava

Yes We Can Canary Islands has managed to promote an agreement to improve safety and preserve the trees on the Humboldt viewpoint road, between La Orotava and La Cuesta de la Villain Saint Ursula, through which about 11,000 vehicles pass daily. The insular spokesperson for the purple formation, María José Belda, affirms that residents in the area and road users “must have all the necessary guarantees to improve traffic safety on this road, also in line with respect to existing trees.

Maria Jose Beldacounselor and insular spokesperson for the political group Yes We Can Canary Islands in the Cabildo de Tenerifevalues ​​the institutional agreement adopted so that “the studies carried out so far on the TF-21, an insular road that connects the municipalities of Santa Ursula and La Orotavato continue working on reducing the speed of traffic on this road in order to improve road safety and respect the surrounding trees.

Belda states that this new approval will encourage “the Cabildo to assess the speed reduction in said area, to make it easier for citizens to continue enjoying that space, to walk or play sports, in a safe way».

In September 2021, an institutional agreement was reached that led to studies being carried out in order to study the speed reduction on said road. Subsequently, in October 2021, a motion presented by Yes We Can Canary Islands to “ensure the defense of the island’s trees, especially those that are on the margins of the island’s roads and that may be affected by the works in the Highways area, in such a way that new indiscriminate felling of these trees is avoided. for future performances.

The Island Council awarded the surface rehabilitation works of the TF-21 in a section with a total length of 4.7 kilometers between La Orotava and Santa Úrsula. The intervention had a budget of 1,464,880 euros.
