The area of Employment, Socioeconomic Development and Foreign Action of the Cabildo de Tenerife has launched the call for the ‘Tenerife New Fashion Designers Contest’, which includes the award of three cash prizes and a scholarship for the participant who comes in first position.
As explained by the Minister Carmen Luz Baso, “the idea is to support all those designers who seek to start their professional career in the field of fashion creation and thus promote the industry of clothing and fashion accessories.”
As a novelty this year, the minister highlights in a note the granting of a scholarship with which the designer who obtains the first prize will be able to continue training and take both university studies and specific courses in Spain and abroad.
“Talent and training must go hand in hand in order to make the most of the growth potential of the island’s fashion sector,” says Baso, who explains that the goal “is to provide more comprehensive support to the new designer so that it can develop its full capabilities, both now and in the future.
For her part, the insular director of Socioeconomic Development, Ermitas Moreiras, points out that this contest is part of the set of actions that the Cabido is promoting to “give an outlet to the creativity of new designers and thereby expand the offer of the textile sector.
Individual designers or groups of a maximum of two people residing in Tenerife, regardless of their nationality, who are of legal age and who have not professionally engaged in design, manufacturing or marketing activities may participate in this competition. fashion under a personal commercial trademark.
The deadline for submitting applications will be 30 calendar days, counting from this Thursday until July 15, 2022, both inclusive.
Each participant must present a single collection, made up of ten sheets of fashion designs on a free inspiration theme in DIN A4 format and accompanied by the technical sheet.
The works that are received will be valued by a technical commission that will be in charge of selecting six finalists who will be invited to participate in a parade to show their designs.
Each of them may receive in advance an aid for a maximum amount of 1,000 euros to meet the expenses derived from the preparation of the designs, with prior justification.
After this event, the commission will choose the three finalists who will be awarded a cash prize of 3,000, 2,000 and 1,000 euros, depending on their position.
In addition, the winner of the first prize will be able to access a study scholarship for a minimum amount of 3,000 euros and a maximum of 7,000 euros, depending on the type of study to be taken and the place to which they must travel to do so.
