SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, June 15. (EUROPE PRESS) –
Canarian Coalition of Tenerife has denounced that the draft of the new Governing Plan for Use and Management (PRUG) of the Teide National Park “wants to steal Teide from the people of Tenerife”, since it is a document that “has been prepared behind the backs of the citizenship of the Island and of a multitude of groups”. “El Teide requires a quality document that regulates it, in accordance with what it represents,” they assert from the party.
The nationalists announced that they will present initiatives, proposals and motions in town halls, the Cabildo de Tenerife and the Parliament of the Canary Islands for the immediate withdrawal of the draft of the new PRUG del Teide, a battery of initiatives at all levels so that the plan and its elaboration begins from scratch with the aim that “real and effective participation is heard and given to citizens, from dialogue and consensus with groups, from respect for the people of Tenerife and their institutions”.
The secretary of the Canarian Coalition Organization of Tenerife and regional deputy, Rosa Dávila, and the spokesperson for the CC-PNC Nationalist Group in the Cabildo, Carlos Alonso, divulged these actions, since they consider that this document is “a real fudge, it is prepared behind the backs of citizens and groups”, in addition to the fact that the environmental evaluation of the document “is very poor”.
“The Plan contains many errors, since it establishes a series of prohibitions for the practice of activities that are not justified from an objective point of view. There are no technical and environmental studies that determine the load and the level of saturation for the different sports activities “, they explained.
The nationalist deputy advanced that motions will be presented in all the island’s town halls and a battery of initiatives in Parliament “to withdraw this document that does not have the consensus and participation of Tenerife society. A plan that does not have support and consensus on something as important to the people of Tenerife as Teide is useless”.
Dávila denounced that this plan of the Government of the Canary Islands “takes Teide away from the people of Tenerife”. “This plan robs us of Teide, expels us and prohibits us from enjoying our Teide with respect and protection, as we have always done. Teide is our heritage, it is the symbol of our identity as a people, it is a feeling that excites us and nothing and no one can take that away from us,” he defended
“Let Ángel Víctor Torres and his Government know that we do not trust them. We do not trust his Government of the Canary Islands, nor his Minister for Ecological Transition. For this reason, we demand the immediate withdrawal of this Plan that usurps the use of and the enjoyment of Teide in a respectful way as we have always done”, he warned.
THREE MEGACONSTRUCTIONS
“The people of Tenerife have to know and know that free access to Teide is going to be limited, that the hours are going to be limited, that you can only go by shuttle or private buses for which you will have to pay and that in addition there are three mega-constructions that are an ecological and landscape attack in the surroundings of the Park with shuttles and limiting free access to Teide.Three mega-interchangers that seem more like three shopping centers than something in keeping with the landscape, geological values and the richness of the flora and fauna of Teide “, he sentenced.
For his part, Carlos Alonso announced that the nationalist group will propose several actions in the Island Corporation, such as a motion in the plenary session on June 24 on the withdrawal of the PRUG draft and a motion in the Sports Commission that will be held tomorrow Thursday in which will request the immediate creation of a sector table for sports activities that take place in the Teide National Park.
“The objective is to carry out an in-depth review of the PRUG document submitted to public information to achieve the development of sports activities in the National Park in a way that is compatible with the principles and values of conservation and respect for the natural environment,” he explained.
In this sense, Alonso assured that “Pedro Martín’s passivity and apathy with respect to everything that concerns Teide” is surprising. “If he knew what the PRUG and the Mobility Plan provided for and he has not done anything, bad. And if he did not know, worse, because he is the president of the Cabildo and the Board of Trustees of the Teide National Park,” he added.
A “POOR” ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT.
The nationalist spokesman affirmed that the environmental evaluation “is poor, it is not adequate for what Teide deserves.” “The new PRUG of the Teide National Park suffers from numerous errors, since it establishes a series of prohibitions for the practice of activities that are not justified from an objective point of view”, he said.
Thus, I indicate that sports activities (mountaineering, climbing, climbing, cycling, hiking, canyoning, Nordic walking, mountaineering, mountain skiing, snowshoeing, 4X4 activities and mountain races) are limited, establishing prohibitions in some cases, and limitations, in others. Similarly, beekeeping and audiovisual activities are limited, also clearly harming these sectors, as well as that of hunters.”
As detailed by Alonso, “the prohibitions and limitations established by the document” have not been carried out in a consensual manner with the aforementioned groups, which has caused great discomfort among them. In addition, there are no technical and environmental studies that determine the load and the level of saturation for the different sports activities. In other words, the opinion of groups and experts has not been taken into account – there has been no effective participation – and the measures have not been taken based on objective data.
“El Teide is much more than a mountain or a park for all Tenerife and Canary Islanders. It is a feeling and as such, its regulation must have the greatest possible participation and consensus, both from the general public and from the groups especially affected, such as those involved in sports activities,” he said.
For her part, the nationalist deputy recalled that this plan “limits the free access of the people of Tenerife to Teide. This plan prohibits, limits and leaves out traditional uses for a multitude of groups that have historically enjoyed and contributed to the conservation and protection of Teide “.
“The Teide National Park, which was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2007, is also the heritage of all Tenerife residents and this Plan for the Use and Management of Teide has been carried out without the opinion and participation of citizens,” he stated. .
