The Granadilla de Abona Secondary School needs a comprehensive reform and a plan for the future that guarantees the renovation of the first center of this level built in the region, half a century ago, with a census of 1,400 students, one of the most crowded in the Canary Islands. This is confirmed by the mayor of Granada, José Domingo Regalado, after a visit to the educational complex accompanied by the regional deputy of his party, the Canarian Coalition (CC), Rosa Dávila.
The construction of sports fields “that can also be used by the residents of the municipality and by the population of the region” is a priority for the councilor, who ensures that there is land for it. A new library and a new assembly hall are other needs that would represent a qualitative leap for IES Granadilla. To the point that it could house the Language School, points out Regalado. “The future of the municipality is here, what is needed is for the Government of the Canary Islands to have the political will to carry out this project,” says the mayor of Granadilla.
For its part, Rosa Davila announces that it will present, in the Parliament of the Canary Islands, initiatives with the aim that the regional Executive initiate, immediately, a plan to reform the academic center and undertake various improvements in the Granadilla de Abona Secondary Education Institute that, in addition, make it possible give a quality leap in sports, cultural and educational matters to the municipality, defends the deputy.
«The Government of the Canary Islands has to undertake this action urgently. We are talking about the future of the municipality and the southern region of Tenerife. The IES Granadilla de Abona urgently needs a plan for the future and the regional Executive must act now”, publicly denounces the secretary of the Organization of Tenerife nationalists, Rosa Dávila.
José Domingo Regalado begins by stating that «this center was the first in the south of Tenerife and needs a comprehensive renovation that allows it to continue being a benchmark in the region. After 50 years in operation, the IES Granadilla deserves a comprehensive transformation”, highlights the mayor.
Built in the early seventies of the last century, This institute was the epicenter of regulated education in the South for a long period of time, as it was the only operating institute in the entire area.
