The Investigation and Analysis Group of the Canary Islands Traffic Sector (GIAT), after detecting the dissemination of a video on the social network, in which a vehicle was observed circulating at the height of the Mirador de Chivisaya, in Arafo, in the TF-523 highway, popularly known as Subida de Los Loros, overtook when it approached a curved section, marked with a warning sign “curve to the right” at which time another vehicle was traveling downhill, with the consequent risk of frontal collision, clearly affecting their behavior to road safety, integrity and their own life and that of other people.
As a result of the investigation carried out, the driver and the vehicle used were located and identified, proceeding to investigate him for a crime of reckless driving.
Applicable regulations
In accordance with the provisions of the current Penal Code, the crime of reckless driving is punished with a prison sentence of six months to two years and the deprivation of the right to drive motor vehicles and mopeds for a period of more than one and up to six years.
Of the facts investigated, the Armed Institute has delivered a police report to the Investigating Court in Guard functions of the judicial district of Güímar.
Citizen collaboration, in cases like the one at hand, is facilitating the task of the Traffic Association as guarantors of road safety.
