The owner of the Katy Kilate jewelry chain was injured by a knife yesterday morning during a robbery at one of his stores in the Punta Larga shopping center, in the municipality of Candelaria, Tenerife. The events occurred when one of her employees was going to take money from a safe to give it to the robber, who had put a knife to the woman’s neck shortly before. In the end, between the owner of the aforementioned company, a security guard and a client of the commercial premises, they managed to reduce the author of the robbery with violence and intimidation, who was arrested by Civil Guard agents.
The businessman, owner of the business together with his wife, explained yesterday that the first person who noticed that an individual was making strange movements in the store in the lower part of the Punta Larga shopping center was one of the daughters of the married couple who owned the store. string. This woman works as a supervisor in one of the security camera centers owned by the jewelry chain.
Immediately detecting her suspicious attitude, the young woman urgently called Katy Kilate’s establishment located in the upper part of the same shopping center, where, by chance, her father was at that moment. Upon receiving the alert, the owner ran downstairs and approached the premises where the suspect entered. There was no one in the store. But as he leaned out the door of a small office, he realized that his employee was going to take money out of a safe and the man had his back turned.
The businessman asked: “Is everything correct?” The worker was silent. But the criminal turned quickly and, while with one hand he tried to introduce the owner into the office, with which he had the knife he tried to stab him.
From that moment, between both men there was a struggle. According to the victim, in a small space they fought “hand-to-hand.” In the end, the businessman was able to get the robber out to the store. Based on his testimony, on the one hand, the affected wanted to get him out of the premises, but, on the other, he was trying to defend himself against the criminal’s attacks.
About 30 seconds later, a security guard from the shopping center arrived at the scene. Between the businessman and the private security employee they were able to throw the thief to the ground and immobilize it. However, he offered great resistance. The collaboration of a client of the shopping center, who had a motorcycle helmet in his hand, was key, since he was able to remove the knife.
In this way it was possible to reduce it, since the guard put the shackles on the robber’s wrists. And minutes later the Civil Guard agents arrived, who made the arrest of the individual.
Regarding the alleged perpetrator of the events, it is an individual who supposedly has a Latin American accent.
The owner of Katy Kilate suffered a minor cut to her neck and another knife injury to her forearm. For this reason he was treated at the scene by ambulance personnel. And then he went to a health center, where an injury report was issued.
Later he filed a complaint with the Civil Guard, which took charge of the proceedings. The businessman clarifies that “the security measures that we are forced to have are increasingly efficient and effective”, in relation to the video surveillance camera centers.
