The demonstration is called by the Tenerife Association of Friends of Nature (ATAN), Save Fonsalía, Save La Tejita, Save El Puertito, Telesforo Bravo Foundation, Tegüico, Youth for Climate Tenerife, Ben Magec-Ecologists in Action and Assembly in Defense of Our Earth, among others.

The demonstration is expected to run between Plaza Weyler and the Cabildo de Tenerife with the aim of also requesting a tourist moratorium for the Canary Islands.

ATAN sources have indicated that a situation of collapse has been reached “so that new developments, more roads, ports and trains not only do not imply an improvement in the social and economic situation of the islands, but, on the contrary, they contribute to aggravate it and make it irreversible”.

In turn, sources from Tegüico, an association for the protection and dissemination of Tenerife’s cultural heritage, have pointed out that the island “can no longer bear any more mistreatment” of its natural spaces and have stressed that the works carried out in Puertito de Adeje can harm and damage a number of archaeological sites.

For its part, the legal commission of ATAN continues to study the legal formulas to appeal the partial plan of Puertito de Adeje and prevent the construction of the tourist complex that, in its opinion, would end the last redoubt of the coast free of urban occupation in the west. from Tenerife.

In his opinion, on land the project will directly affect a Site of Scientific Interest for its cardonal-tabaibal, which has already suffered the destruction of specimens with the start of construction of the road that will lead to the new tourist development.

ATAN warns that the inhabitants of El Puertito will also be affected, since the planning of the place has been changed from a residential area to a commercial one, with which, in their opinion, “they will end up throwing out the fishermen” who have traditionally lived there.

In addition, he points out, there will be a serious impact on the coastline, which is classified as an Area of Community Interest within the Natura 2000 Network and in whose waters live two species of sea turtles, the green and the loggerhead, as well as other marine mammals, since they form part of the marine fringe to the west of Tenerife inhabited by cetaceans and therefore are “theoretically protected” waters.

In his opinion, the tourist complex Cuna del alma, with some 3,500 places, would generate “a tremendous impact” that has already led to the mobilization of scientific and environmental groups against it.

The works have been paralyzed in a precautionary way by the Insular Directorate of Planning of the Territory and Historical Heritage of the Cabildo de Tenerife pending a technical report on the protection of the archaeological elements present in the enclave.

The Cuna del Alma macroproject, promoted by Belgian investors, aims to develop a ravine and a beach in Armeñime next to the aforementioned protected area and foresees the construction of some 430,000 square meters with more than 400 luxury villas, hotels, restaurants, swimming pools, club of beach and other infrastructures, such as an orchard whose extension (20,000 square meters) invades part of the Site of Scientific Interest of the Protected Nature Reserve of Adeje.
