SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, June 10. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The municipality of Tegueste, and specifically the town of Pedro Álvarez, will host the new offices of the Macizo de Anaga Biosphere Reserve from this Friday, a location from which it is intended to improve management and send the General Council, the Scientific Committee and to the Participation Committee the information, proposals and concerns, as well as offering the neighbors an information, advice and public management service for the problems and demands they want to raise.
The councilor for Management of the Natural Environment of the Cabildo de Tenerife, and president of the Reserve Council, Isabel García, pointed out that not too long ago, months before December 2021, they perceived that the promotion of the Macizo de Anaga “was hanging by a thread.”
Due to different circumstances, he commented, “it seemed that attention to this important figure of protection had been diluted.”
Even, he pointed out, “we came to perceive the real ignorance of the citizens about how significant it is for the Macizo de Anaga to have this distinction.”
García then justified the establishment of these new facilities to “implement an adaptive management that includes concrete actions and not a simple poster or sign without value”, and added that “from today any action that takes place within these walls is a declaration of intentions, in which love and respect for the care of our natural value prevail above all else”.
For this reason, “Anaga today celebrates the launch of a new tool for its care”.
The mayor of Tegueste, Ana Mena, pointed out that the municipality offers “the right building to house these offices”, and they are “very proud” to do so, in addition to ensuring that the Reserve is preserved, that the workers have after seven years a place to put all that knowledge.
Also participating in the meeting were the president of the Scientific Council of the Man and Biosphere Program of UNESCO, the councilor for the Environment of Tegueste, Manuel Martín, his namesake from La Laguna, José Luis Hernández, and the district councilor of Santa Cruz, Inmaculada Fuentes. .
The headquarters of the office is located in the Pedro Álvarez Environmental Center, in premises provided by the Tegueste City Council.
This corporation also provides the shared use of the common areas and meeting rooms of this center for all kinds of events related to the purposes of the Reserve and holding sessions of the governing and participation bodies.
The transfer of this premises was ratified at the session of the General Council of the Macizo de Anaga Biosphere Reserve held on July 1, 2021, pending the signing of the mandatory Agreement between the City Council and the Tenerife Island Council, in its status as an administrative entity.
