One candidate, number 10, who wears a design by Sedomir Rodríguez, did not pass the test carried out last night on the stage of the Gala of the Election of the Carnival Queen because the disproportionate weight of the fantasy, which exceeds 1,000 kilos, was not supported by the part of the stage where the turntable is located.
During the morning of today two other tests have been carried out, with the same result, which is that the wheels that support the suit sink into the boards of the turntable. This was confirmed by the Councilor for Fiestas, Alfonso Cabello, who pointed out that “after carefully reviewing all the points on the stage, and reinforcing the entire route of the candidates, at this time the designer has been asked that we need to know the exact weight of that candidate, to be able to count on the technical report that tells us if she can parade or not, always prioritizing the safety of the candidate herself.
The councilor did not want to provide more information until he learned the weight of fantasy and the reports from both the stage engineer and the director of the Self-Protection Plan on the candidate’s safety in a suit of such dimensions.
As DIARIO DE AVISOS has been able to learn, the possibilities for this candidate pass, once that report is available, either because the costume does not parade, because the weight is so excessive that the stage cannot be secured, or because it only exit to a certain point on the stage since, so far, the turntable part is the only one that has not withstood the weight tests of that design. It may also happen that the designer chooses to reduce the weight of the fantasy, in which case, depending on the reduction achieved, it can parade normally.
Throughout today’s afternoon, once the receptive reports are available, a decision will be made.
Meeting with the designers
The Autonomous Organization of Festivities and Recreational Activities (OAFAR) and the Artistic Direction of the Gala have held a meeting with the designers of the candidates for Carnival Queen to deal with the incident that arose with one of the fantasies after the dress rehearsal on Thursday, June 9.
Since early in the morning work has been carried out to reinforce the tables on which they have paraded without problem, passing the general test, nine of the candidates, who will access the rotating stage. Number 10, however, will have to pass an additional test since she has once again had difficulties moving on the stage and puts the development of the Gala at risk.
For the moment, it has been agreed that he will not access the provocateur’s rotary and, depending on the upcoming load test, it will be decided whether or not he will participate in the contest.
