The Regional Minister responsible for the Department, José Antonio Valbuena, underlined the fact that it is still an initial document and that the objective is for this process to have as many contributions as possible to enrich the text and for all groups to feel reflected in the final version that is submitted for approval.

“As happened with the Law on Climate Change and Energy Transition, which became the most participatory in the history of the Canary Islands, we have complemented the mandatory processes of public exposure through specific meetings with groups, entities and public bodies that have interest in this process”, added Valbuena.

The counselor also pointed out that another of the reasons that has led to this modification of the deadline is that some contributions already collected require a more in-depth analysis before their inclusion, which is why, he said, “we want to listen to all the sectors involved and reach to the greatest possible consensus, without neglecting the objective of conserving and preserving one of the most privileged natural spaces in the Canary Islands”.

Valbuena stressed that “this Government has defended the principle of transparency and real participation in the numerous documents that have been drafted in this legislature and the PRUG of the Teide National Park is not going to be an exception”. For this reason, he has insisted, “I encourage citizens and all public and private entities to continue participating in this procedure and to consult the initial draft”.

The Ministry of Ecological Transition, Fight against Climate Change and Territorial Planning of the Government of the Canary Islands recalls that observations and suggestions can be made in person at the registry offices of the Government of the Canary Islands, in the registries regulated by article 16.4 of the LPACAP or in the electronic office.

Criticism and doubts about the draft

Since the document was published for the period of allegations and proposal are various groups that have publicly questioned some of the measurements collected. The Canary Islands Audiovisual Cluster, which includes some 60 companies in the sector, declared itself with special emphasis, for whom the new PRUG “practically prohibits filming” in the National Park.

Athletes have also positioned themselves against some of the Plan’s limitations, because they directly affect the development of these activities, such as races or training, among others.

The plan, among other measures, provides for the construction of new infrastructure for the management of the Park, limiting parking and circulation in private vehicles to encourage the use of shuttle buses, but without specifying the cost of their use or where they would be parked. the vehicles.

It also includes the prohibition of access to the park with pets, such as dogs, except in three cases: rescue animals, population control or guide animals.
