SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, June 6. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The Cabildo de La Palma has urged the Government of the Canary Islands to create a pediatric oncohematology unit for the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife in one of the capital’s hospitals, improving the conditions of children and adolescents suffering from this disease.
The Cabildo has approved today Monday in the Board of Spokespersons the institutional declaration to support the motion raised by the Fundación Canaria Pequeno Valiente.
The Minister of Social Action, Nieves Hernández, stated that the government team, hand in hand with the opposition, “continues to bet on people and their well-being, being one of the main objectives of the Corporation in this mandate.”
In addition, he assured that the implementation of this unit “would not only help patients, but also their relatives, obtaining a place to find support and information.”
The Maternal and Child Hospital of Gran Canaria already has a pediatric oncohematology unit consisting of eight rooms, two of them for isolation, a day hospital in the unit itself, a games and television room, a kitchen so that families can have a space for meals, etc.
With this very positive experience of the Maternity Unit in Las Palmas, the need for a pediatric oncohaematology unit to be installed in one of the two hospitals in Tenerife is highlighted to welcome children and adolescents from the entire province of Santa Cruz of Tenerife, which includes the islands of La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro.
In this way, a comprehensive management space would be created with the aim of improving the quality of life of patients and their families, increasing the efficiency of the medical team by integrating multiple services that seek to maximize care.
