The Artisan women are protagonists of the second edition of the Craft Market of Puerto de la Cruz, which closes today at 10:00 p.m. Among the 30 positions of 18 different trades, 76% are headed by women, who expose their work to tourists and residents in disciplines such as pottery, fretwork, jewelry or leather goods. The Cabildo de Tenerife, through the Insular Craft Company, and the Puerto de la Cruz City Council inaugurated last Friday this annual exhibition that offers a point of sale for crafts in the main tourist area of the North.
The island councilor for Employment, Socioeconomic Development and Foreign Action, Carmen Luz Baso, highlights that “the second Craft Market in Puerto de la Cruz is an opportunity to show the high quality of craftsmanship that the island possesses and take advantage of the influx of international tourists who visit the municipality to publicize and promote the artisan products of Tenerife in a broader market and thus contribute to improving its sales”.
The mayor of Puerto de la Cruz, Marco González, thanks the council “the confidence to continue counting on the municipality to expose the excellence of the work that the trade of our artisans entails.” An exhibition that coincides with other activities in the city such as the international festival of remote work and digital culture Tednomad or the Blue Trail.
The insular director of Socioeconomic Development, Ermitas Moreira, added that this event allows “highlighting the increasing weight that women have in the crafts of Tenerife, since in this second edition 76% of the exhibitors are led by women». Moreiras said that “in recent years the celebration of the Insular Craft Fair has been alternating between municipalities, locating it in places such as Candelaria, Puerto de la Cruz, Adeje or Garachico, but in order to maintain an annual celebration fair in the municipality of Puerto de la Cruz, this new initiative was born».
The setting chosen to host this market is the Plaza de los Reyes Católicos in the municipality of Porto, a space attached to Avenida de Colón and Paseo de San Telmo where stalls selling patchwork, artificial flowers, fabric decoration, enamels, printing and engraving, soap, jewelry, leather goods, dressmaker, dolls, paper and cardboard, recycled materials, wood turning, in addition to the traditional pottery, fretwork, cigars, rosettes or high basketry. The Puerto de la Cruz Craft Market says goodbye on this Sunday, when it will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 3:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
