Jesica Fajardo Plasencia did not think twice when she was proposed to be Carnival Queen candidate and, at 40 years old, he affirms, in this interview with DIARIO DE AVISOS, that “it doesn’t matter how old you are” but “how enthusiastic you are”.

Jesica Fajardo will wear the fantasy Besar la Libertad, by RP Designers and on behalf of Tower Cranes Fajardo and Bodytime Gym, and of which he highlights that “the most special thing is that it has a soul, it vindicates something”.

This carnival from Tíncer combines rehearsals with preparation as a candidate and her work in the Property Registry of La Laguna.

-How do you feel being a candidate for Carnival Queen? Is it your first time?

“It’s the first time I’ve introduced myself. I feel good, a little nervous, but good. I am very carnival, I have been in murgas and comparsas, and this year they proposed me the candidate for Queen of the Carnival and the truth is that I did not think about it, because as I have always lived it and I love Carnival, well I accepted it, and here I am in this adventure”.

“I don’t think you’ve seen many 40-year-old candidates. Age does not matter, what matters is the enthusiasm you have and the carnival spirit you have. Just as I don’t think it’s a beauty pageant, what matters is, above all, that you know how to demonstrate the essence of Carnival”.

-How did you get the opportunity?

“I am in the Bahía Bahitiare comparsa and the designer contacted me through Facebook, because he had a relationship with the comparsa and he liked how I am and he proposed it to me and I was delighted”.

-Have you thought about it before?

“Nope. I have always seen it from the outside and I always said that I would have liked to be there one day, on top of the float, but I had never signed up for any casting or anything like that”.

-What does it mean for you to participate in this first Carnival after the pandemic?

“It is like a responsibility because it is not just any Carnival, it is the return. We are already history because all the candidates are as marked in a little book, but on top of that it is the Carnival of the return to normality is like double responsibility ”.

-What can you tell us about your fantasy?

“From the beginning I have seen it, my designer has always shown me the sketch, and I also participate in the fantasy, every week I go and rehearse and I am super happy. There will be a lot of surprises because there are things that have never been seen. The most special thing is that it has an essence, it has a soul, because it claims something, and for me that is more beautiful than having many feathers and a lot of glitter”.

-Are you also helping in its preparation?

“I try to help a little as much as I can, because with work, rehearsals, the gym… well, I can’t do much. But I always try to help, it is necessary to buy such a thing, well come on, I’ll buy it. I try to help as I can.”

-And as a carnival fan, I suppose that I also want to enjoy that weekend of partying in the street after two years...

“Yes, very much, the truth is that yes, wanting to go out and return to normality in quotes and be able to enjoy what I like, the carnival and dress up and have fun.”

-Do you already have a costume?

“Let’s go space girls.”
