A year ago, the mayor of Good view He stated that the North of Tenerife had shortcomings that were “historical”, ranging from the improvement of roads to health needs. Two years later, he assures that the situation “remains the same” and, recently, they have begun to make announcements and promises with the North Hospital “because there are elections.” Three years have passed and we have not seen any substantial change, it continues to function the same, as a specialty medical center ”, he criticizes.
-Finally, the municipality has its own tourist brand. Why did it take so long to implement?
“Because the City Council has had other priorities. In the last ten years it has been sunk in the most absolute economic precariousness, ruined, and we could not afford this type of investment. It is now when we have started to program things. We came to the Government again in 2019, we got to work, the pandemic came and we had to wait to start concretizing projects.”
-The implementation of a bus for Punta de Teno has been a successful measure?
“It has been a good measure in terms of conservation, safety and quality of the visit, what happens is that there are a series of measures for the neighbors that in the end have not materialized. The study itself said that if the bus worked every day, the inhabitants of Buenavista had to be compensated. The Cabildo has been requested, through an annual subscription, which is the format that we have wanted to give it, but, three years later, it is still unattended. Even at some point it has been disassociated from this study of conclusions that indicates that the population of Buenavista has to be compensated for this regulation, which goes through an ease of access and a lower rate.
-Would you adopt the same measure to access Masca?
“I think not, because Masca, in addition to being a place to visit, is a town where people live and sometimes we forget about it. It is an eminently rural town and if this mass tourism is already a burden for its inhabitants, we cannot burden it more by limiting access, because this will end up interfering in their lives and we understand that it is not the right thing to do. The measures that must be implemented are others and, together with the Cabildo, we are walking in the right direction, what happens is that they do not finish crystallizing. In my opinion, the size of the vehicles on the road must be limited, and for this, this formula is being studied, and that the public transport service works more efficiently, because right now it is completely residual, it is intensifying a little on the days when the ravine is open, but it does not even serve the local population. And for what people keep going to Mascabut without using his car, he has to have an efficient public transport service”.
– Has there been planning in Masca or is it still an abandoned town, as the neighbors always complained?
“The neighbors are very right in their claims. Its urban planning regulations are incorrect, because it does not adapt to the territory, it is not made for that place. We don’t even get into the debate of whether or not it can grow. The City Council has always been at a different speed from that of Masca and the challenge we have is to incorporate the daily life of this nucleus into the daily life of Buenavista. That is one of the reasons that leads us to say that we have to deal with this reality as a municipal reality, but it is also important that the resources generated by Masca remain here, so that this reality can be responded to on a day-to-day basis. . There’s still much to do”.
-Do you still think that natural purification is the best solution for Isla Baja?
“Yes, and without any nuance, I think it is the most sustainable solution for our territory so that in 20 or 25 years we will continue to purify our waters without multiplying the bill by four or five. And when I talk about sustainability, I’m not referring to the environment, but to costs, conduction, and maintenance. And according to the municipal technicians, it is also the most recommended option”.
-The region of Ycoden Daute is still the great forgotten of Tenerife?
“More and more people look there, but they still don’t understand and don’t listen in the same way as other places where more people live. However, I notice a difference from what I experienced during my first term 2011-2015. Now there is a greater closeness and sensitivity on the part of the Cabildo, but that later does not translate into concrete measures and investments.
