La Mesa Mota, in La Laguna, center this Saturday of the environment and sustainability

This will be one of the main actions that make up the program that the Environment Department of the Municipality of La Laguna has organized, throughout this month, to commemorate World Environment Day, and to which various entities and organizations from the municipality and the Island have joined.

“Acts with which we want La Laguna to become a heritage municipality of the environment and sustainability”, said yesterday the councilor of the area, José Luis Hernández, during the presentation of the programming, accompanied by the treasurer of the Orfeón La Paz de La Laguna, Begoña Hernández, and representatives of different neighborhood associations and collaborating entities.

The program starts tomorrow with the main celebration at the Mesa Mota and which, from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., will bring together proposals for all ages, such as, for example, the recovery of the kite festival, model aircraft, adapted hiking, interventions live artistic performances, giant games and crafts, as well as an exhibition area for sustainable projects, a market for responsible brands, local flora plantations and talks and workshops. In addition, an exhibition will remember and pay tribute to the fight that, 40 years ago, prevented the Montaña del Aire de La Laguna from becoming an island dump.

The event will have free transportation from the Plaza del Adelantado at 10:30 and 12:30, and return from the park at 6:00 and 7:00 p.m. Places will be filled in order of arrival.

Another event that stood out was the one organized this Sunday, at 7:00 p.m., by the Orfeón La Paz at the Teatro Leal, with the collaboration of the council, called Tribute to the Earth II: The Sounds of the Sea, and that will mix musical performances with theatrical scenes and sounds and images of the sea, to raise awareness about the problems it suffers, explained Begoña Hernández. Tickets are available at the theater box office.

Meanwhile, the councilor continued explaining that next Monday the photographic exhibition of birds in the municipality will be inaugurated Those who are and those who visit us, by Arturo Clavijo Redondo, which will visit various citizen centers in the municipality until July 11. In addition, the Casa de los Capitanes will host, from June 10 to 23, an exhibition of works by young Canarian artists belonging to the educational, artistic and social program of the Cabildo Merkarte, with proposals that will unite nature and art.

Likewise, on June 8, students from the IES El Sobradillo, in collaboration with the Cabildo Volunteer Office, the Montañeros de Tenerife group and students from other institutes, will plant 50 species of flora from the area in Mesa Mota.

Finally, Hernández indicated that on the 17th an awareness action will be carried out in the Plaza de Las Carboneras in which neighbors and students will participate and in which there will be a demonstration of the work of the Ecological Police and the Environmental Protection Unit. , and that will end with the planting of some species.
