The III edition of the Ciente Festival It will be held from June 5 to 19 in Candelaria, with the Youth Zone as its main space, where the youngest can enjoy performing arts, educational workshops and live theatrical talks. In addition, the event has online activities and three theatrical scientific routes that will take place in La Orotava.
The mayor of City Hall of Candelaria, Mari Brito, highlighted in the press conference to present the Festival “the commitment to culture made by the Consistory, which has set access to culture for all among its priorities. Hence the support for this festival that allows the municipality to have a new initiative in which the binomial science and culture are perfectly combined”.
The director of the Ciente Festival, Ricardo del Castillo, highlighted another of the festival’s objectives, which aims to “make the transversality of culture a reality, helping to improve other aspects of life, and more specifically in this case, in the need that It supposes the dissemination of science for the formation of citizenship.”
For his part, the island director of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Alejandro Krawietz, spoke of the importance of a cultural festival of performing arts of these characteristics for the island institution. “We defend an idea in which the island’s cultural space should be defined by the cultural activity carried out by the municipalities,” he assured, in addition to highlighting “the ability of science and culture to generate knowledge and express complex thoughts and that in a universal way transfer knowledge to citizens”
The proposal of the Ciente Festival is oriented towards the dissemination of science, with content treated rigorously in different formats; by artists and disseminators, both local and foreign, with the collaboration of public and private entities related to cultural management or scientific and technological progress.
These contents are for all audiences, but they focus especially on children and youth, with a program of theater and music shows that have in common their relationship with the field of science: its advances, its protagonists, its conflicts and his story.
The general objective of the Ciente Festival is to increase the performing arts offer for all audiences, especially young people, in non-metropolitan areas of Tenerife. This offer must be diverse, inclusive and egalitarian, as well as representative of existing proposals or facilitating the creation of new ones.
The program of this III edition is divided into four blocks in which the offer of shows of various formats related to science is mixed, theatrical talks that seek to innovate with a more attractive format that facilitates public understanding, workshops in which science is explained in a playful way in collaboration with entities and NGOs that work with children at risk of exclusion, and lastly, theatrical scientific routes that seek to unite culture, scientific dissemination and tourism.
Among the participants in this festival are the Big Van Company from Valencia, the PAI Company from Zaragoza, the Incite Company from Barcelona, Estíbaliz Espinosa from Galicia or the Funny Science Company. All of them will be in charge of entertaining by teaching with their shows.
On the other hand, the theatrical talks will be offered by Bela Zaid and Sergio Barreto, while in the online talks we will have the participation of Marta Macho-Stadler and Miguel Ángel González.
Finally, the scientific routes will take place in several passes on Sunday June 5 at 10:00 and 12:00 in La Orotava, and on Sunday 12 at 10:00.
