The German supermarket chain Aldi will land this summer in the Canary Islands with ten establishments, with an average of 1,300 square meters each, five of which will be located on the island of Tenerife, specifically, in Arafo, Adeje, Las Chafiras, San Isidro and Los Rodeos. In three years the chain hopes to have another 20 supermarkets available to Canarians.
Although the construction of the new stores is already advanced, at the moment 240 workers are being trained to be hired, 40% through the Canary Islands Employment Service and the rest through a job bank, as announced yesterday Carmen Toubes, from Tenerife, with nine years in the company, recently appointed managing director of Aldi in the Canary Islands, in a visit that DIARIO DE AVISOS made to the installation of the chain in the El Carretón area, in the municipality of Arafo.
“We are very excited to reach Canarian homes very soon, with a relevant proposal for the consumer,” assured Carmen Toubes, where she highlights the role that the Canary Islands will play in the company’s expansion plan this year, which foresees the opening of 50 new establishments throughout the Spanish territory.
Toubes also explained Aldi’s business model based on discounts and aimed at offering a simple, easy and comfortable purchase, with quality products at the best possible price. In addition, the company highlighted its relationship with local suppliers and, therefore, highlighted that it works with 37 Canarian suppliers to incorporate more than 320 products purchased in the Canary Islands on the shelves of its supermarkets, which will represent close to 20% of the assortment of the Aldi in the Islands. Canarian products will include the Soy Canarian label, a specific label that identifies them and guarantees that the product is made in the Canary Islands or originates from the Islands.
All these products will be classified and distributed from the 26,000 square meters of Aldi’s logistics platform, located in Agüimes, on the island of Gran Canaria, which will be operational shortly to serve the first stores that open in the Archipelago from of the summer.
