The Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Housing of the Canary Islands Government will invest 2.5 million euros this year in the construction of 17 protected homes in Santiago del Teideactions that are part of the objectives of the Canary Islands Housing Plan 2020-2025 to expand the public housing stock in the less populated municipalities of the Archipelago.
Area Counselor, Sebastian Franquisand the mayor of Santiago, Emilio Navarro, held a meeting to define the housing actions planned by the regional Executive in the municipality. Other 10 homes that will be built by the southern town hall with the subsidy provided by the Ministry to combat depopulation.
The Canarian Housing Institute (Icavi) prepares the tender to build the 17 protected homes in an area of 1,592.90 square meters ceded by the Consistory, to which it will allocate €2,458,769. The forecast is that the work will start before the end of this exercise.

The houses will be 1, 2 and 3 bedrooms, among which one is reserved as a sheltered apartment with four bedrooms. The building will be distributed in four blocks with two floors above ground and a basement, intended for 17 parking spaces – one of them is for sheltered housing and the other for adapted housing –, installation rooms, premises and 17 storage rooms.
The project contemplates that the property will be equipped with solar panels for the production of sanitary hot water and the façade and roof will have double partition walls and thermal insulation, thus complying with the specifications of the Technical Building Code (CTE) in terms of energy efficiency.
In addition, the Minister of Public Works, Transport and Housing of the Government of the Canary Islands, Sebastian Franquisand the mayor of Santiago del Teide, Emilio Navarro, agreed to allocate the subsidy that the Ministry granted to this municipality, within the program to combat depopulation in rural areas, to the construction of another development that will have between eight and ten homes. The Santiago municipality received a subsidy from the Canarian Housing Institute for this concept for an amount of 565,436 euroswhich will be dedicated mostly to the construction of new protected housing and a part to the rehabilitation of several houses.
