The Insular Society for the Promotion of Persons with Disabilities (Sinpromi) has promoted the hiring of 241 people from this group, according to the data recorded since 2019. The island councilor for Social Action, Marián Franquet, highlights the important role played by companies that incorporate people from this group into their templates and ensures that « more and more are choosing to hire people with special insertion difficulties and contribute to reinforcing social cohesion».
During this time, 137 companies are those that have collaborated with Sinpromi and facilitated the hiring of people with intellectual disabilities, through the Supported Employment methodology – company staff accompanies the worker in their work –, with the services and hospitality sector being the largest provider of these contracts. These contracts have allowed access to the labor market for 150 men and 91 women. The positions with the highest demand for occupation are those for cleaning, restocking, gardening, shop assistant, waiter’s assistant, kitchen assistant and warehouse assistant, among others.
