Born in Sweden, but with Canarian and Ecuadorian roots, and graduated from the National School of Art in Havana, Cuba, Juan Manzano continues to strengthen his ties with the Canary Islands in an area he knows well, Carnival. In his resume he can boast of having participated in four carnival galas in Tenerife, choreographing more than 700 people per gala under the artistic direction of Enrique Camacho.
Although Juan Manzano’s curriculum includes numerous musicals, films and a multitude of dance choreographies of various styles, this May he has returned to the Fairgrounds to direct the joint performance of the comparsas and the ballet of the Gala de la Reina, whose dance corps is made up of nine male and female dancers selected after a casting process with artists from the Islands.
The councilor of Santa Cruz festivitiesAlfonso Cabello, valued that “the casting process is very important when it comes to democratizing these interventions”.
