The May Festivities of Los Realejos come to an end. The most festive municipality in Spain puts the finishing touch to celebrations between today and tomorrow that have returned to normal after two years of the pandemic and that have been carried out throughout the month without inconvenience and with great acceptance by the public.
The last acts to enjoy with the family are the Livestock Fair, the Festival of the Islands and the Pilgrimage in honor of San Isidro Labrador and Santa María de la Cabeza.
The first of them will take place today from 10:00 am in the surroundings of Finca El Llano. There will be an exhibition of cattle, goats and horses by farmers from the municipality, to which will be added an exhibition of birds of prey, singing canaries by the Floreos del Teide association and a demonstration of threshing, loading, plowing and ironwork.
All this will be complemented by an agricultural market and exhibition and sale of products from the local realejera gastronomy, such as honeys, cheeses, beers, artisanal breads, beautiful potatoes, liqueurs, avocados, organic agricultural products or gofio.
At night, the municipality will become the capital of Canarian folklore with the XLVII edition of the Festival of the Islands, the oldest event of those organized to pay homage to the Islands and that has representation from each one of them.
The event, with free admission, will begin at 8:30 p.m. on the main stage, located in Plaza Viera y Clavijo. This year, the representation will come from the hand of the realejera Los Dóniz Folkloric Group for Tenerife, Hautacuperche Folkloric Group for La Gomera, Ingenio Choirs and Dances for Gran Canaria, Los Campesinos Folkloric Group for Lanzarote, Los Arrieros Folkloric Group for La Palma, Tetir Folkloric Group for Fuerteventura and Sabinosa Folkloric Group for the island of El Hierro, as well as a soloist from the well-known Parranda Los Toledo for La Graciosa, a formation that after the pandemic has not recovered its collective activity.
At midnight, rest will come for the participants, who on Sunday morning will once again be an indispensable part of the Pilgrimage, one of the most anticipated events.
On Tuesday, May 31, the Children’s Magicians’ Dance will take place, and on Wednesday, June 1, the reissue of the multidisciplinary show to exalt the Sentimos Mayo festivities. From that day, Los Realejos begins the countdown, just like the clock located outside the Municipal Tourism Office, for May 2023.
