SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 28 May. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The Institute of Social and Socio-Health Care (IASS), an autonomous body of the Cabildo de Tenerife, has prepared a program of more than 70 activities for the elderly users of its services with which they will celebrate Canary Islands Day.
These acts are also aimed at people with disabilities who attend self-managed centers and those who, although they coordinate different entities, depend on this autonomous body.
The third vice president and councilor for Social Action of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Marián Franquet, explained that the agenda of activities, integrated into the program ‘Conecta Mayores’, has been designed around the value of traditions and the tastes of each group.
“Each center has different circumstances, as well as its users, so we had to plan and prepare different proposals in each case,” he said.
Among the scheduled activities are Canarian cooking and pintaderas workshops, dessert contests, polka battles, intergenerational meetings or traditional dances. All of them are related to the culture of the Archipelago and the Canarian customs. At the same time, many of the centers will receive the visit of different folk groups that will perform in them, as well as some small festival.
Franquet also highlighted the way in which these activities go beyond pure entertainment: “We not only want to entertain the elderly, but we must bring them closer to the public and collaborate so that they integrate into the community”.
For the island counselor, these events, which include attendance at different cultural events, are a way for the full integration of dependent people in society.
Although many of the events have taken place throughout the month of May, most of them will be concentrated around the 30th of this month and the following days.
